Disparate treatment based on RACE, SEX, NATIONAL ORIGIN, ANCESTRY, FOREIGN LANGUAGE/ACCENT, COLOR, AGE, RELIGION, STATUS OF BEING AN ADDICT, PREGNANCY, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, ETC.
California broadly protects nearly every demographic category imaginable from discrimination and harassment. California law goes much farther to protect its citizens that does federal law or the laws of most other states. California law prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, age, disability, pregnancy, military status, religion or foreign accent. It also goes beyond these categories to protect sexual orientation, transgenderism, gender nonconformity and gender transitioning from discrimination on the job too. There are numerous protected categories under the law that cannot be the reason for being treated differently or subjected to an adverse action such as demotion, suspension without pay or termination. Moreover, employees must be permitted to use restrooms that correspond to their gender identity or gender expression. Contact me for further information about this constantly evolving area of law.
